Wild Garden – OBW#123 from If These Threads Could Talk

It is a beautiful Autumn Day and I’m inside wrangling peacocks.

This beautiful panel Wild Garden by White Owl for Lumin Fabrics is just stunning. Wild Garden panel measures 36″ x 42″. Wild Garden is in quilt shops now!

I cut 3.25″ strips for 5″ finished hexies, yielding 210 hexies.

There were some great hexies from this panel. I used Studio 180 Design’s First Choice Ruler to cut mt hexies.

I had a 2″ strip left from cutting up my panels. This allowed to use my Star 60 Tool to make 5″ kaleidoscope Star 60 units ...

Nirali from Sew Preeti Quilts

Meet Nirali!

Nirali

Here is the story or TWO WEEKS AGO (imagine you are watching a thriller on Netflix).

Co-sponsored by Aurifil Threads, Island Batik's September Challenge is named Threaded Chaos, requiring us to make a crib-size (or larger) Crazy Quilt, using our assigned Spring 2025 Collection and Aurifil Threads.

When I made a Crazy Quilt the last time, we were not assigned a fabric collection. I chose solids so that the decorative stitching was better visible.  This time, the fabric and threads were not up to us.

I received the Everlasting Collection, designed by Jerry Khiev.

Everlasting Collection ...

Head Over Heels from Sew Karen-ly Created...

Head Over Heels!©

It's almost a year to the day that Island Batik was in touch to request design submissions for their new Summer 2025 fabric scans. When I saw this "Colorburst" collection, I knew immediately it needed to become a fun, happy, stress free quilt. The design selections were made within a few weeks by Island Batik, and the fabric arrived here in Amherst in November (2024).  In addition to the fabrics in the collection, I also requested a solid black for the heels (! :)) and a multicoloured batik named Sunset for the backing.

Since the collection is also ...

Island Batik Ambassador August Hot Stuff Challenge from Quilting Affection

The Island Batik Ambassadors have a new challenge this month. At the start of the year, each ambassador received an Oliso M3 Pro iron along with a small carrying bag for their irons, provided by our sponsor, Oliso. For August, our challenge is to decorate these small iron carrying bags. We can use various techniques, including quilting, embroidery, appliqué, paint, and more.

The Oliso iron carrying bag is constructed from strong, durable polyester felt, designed to protect the irons. Initially, I had difficulty figuring out how to decorate this carrying bag. However, during my visit to the Road to Virginia ...

Island Batik Ambassador Funky Friends from Quilting Affection

This month, the Island Batik Ambassadors are doing something a bit different. We’ve been tasked with creating stuffed Funky Friends, and our sponsor is Funky Friends Factory. Each ambassador has chosen one of their patterns for this challenge. After visiting Scotland last year, I fell in love with Highland Cows, so I decided to make Harmony the Highland Cow.

Next, I needed to choose the fabrics for making this cute cow. I aimed for Harmony to resemble a real Highland Cow as closely as possible. For the main body, I selected the Red Burgundy Mushroom Time from the Fall ...
